What are indices?
A stock market index is a statistical measure that shows the performance of a certain aspect of the market. In general, indices track how various businesses, particular goods, or national economies function on the global market. Prices of indices indicate changes taking place in the stock market, and help predict economic growth, inflation, or other crucial tendencies.
What kind of indices are there?
There are different classifications of stock market indices. Indices could be “global” or “national”. Global indices, such as S&P Global 100, contain stocks from multiple geographical regions (i.e., Europe, Asia, etc.). National indices, on the other hand, show the performance of the stock market and investor sentiments in a certain country.
Specialized indices track the performance and changes in specific stock market industries or sectors. For example, the NASDAQ100 Technology Sector shows the dynamics of financial performance in major American tech companies.
How to trade CFDs on indices?
First and foremost is to remember that trading CFDs involves benefits and risks. To begin with, get to know the financial instrument called CFD, or contract for difference. When trading CFDs, traders do not own the actual asset (index) but speculate on price changes.
Understanding indices isn’t the only knowledge that can help you increase your trading expertise. You’ll also want to learn the pros and cons of trading on margin and with leverage. When you are aware of how CFDs work, you can choose an index you want to trade and start market analysis.
Then, carefully study that asset’s market tendencies. It is very helpful to follow earning season reports, economic calendars, and other sources to understand the market dynamics of the index you’re interested in trading on.
Finally, when you’ve done your analytics, choose your trading strategy and open a trade position in the trading terminal.
